The difference to you

Our approach is to carry out the construction with minimal disruption to the local community.

Controlled blasting was chosen as the best method of excavation at the three identified shaft locations because of its ability to significantly reduce continuous noise and vibration.

While some rock breaking will be needed during the excavation process, 85% of the excavation will be done by controlled blasting.

Regulated

Regulated

Controlled blasting is not new. It is a tried and tested method used successfully in previous projects like the Clem 7 in Brisbane. The process is strictly regulated by the Environment Protection Authority, Department of Planning and Environment and WorkCover.

Safe

Safe

Strict controls and safety processes are put in place for each blast. Compliance levels are imposed to protect the structural integrity of surrounding infrastructure from damage.

Improved

Improved

The main advantage of our approach is the significant reduction in continual noise, vibration and construction time traditionally associated with rock breaking.

Where will construction take place?

Tunnel access shafts where blasting will take place are at three compounds on Wilson Road Compound, Trelawney Street Compound and Northern Interchange Compound.

Excavation of shafts at these locations will enable access to excavate the tunnel, and for use during operation of the tunnel.

Find out exactly where you are in relation to the shaft locations via our interactive map.
